Matte black loudspeakers lined along a concrete pier facing dark water at blue hour.

About

Pulse Audio designs listening for places, not for playlists. The company builds small speaker arrays and then refuses to stream the piece those arrays were made for.

With the harbor festival it hid an anthem on a Kaohsiung pier. You hear it only if you stand facing the water.

Face the water

Blue hour on a concrete pier. A row of matte black speakers looks at the harbor, not at the city. For twenty seconds you hear only water. Then a low chord, mixed so it seems to come from the cranes. The clip does not show a crowd. There isn't meant to be one yet.

Letter

A score you cannot download

The letter lists the players, how long it lasts, and the rule of the pier: the music has a front. Turn around and it thins out. That behavior is the composition. A download would turn a place into a file.

Eight boxes, one direction

A simple diagram: eight speakers, a pier edge, a cone of sound over water. Pulse explains the aim in plain language. The festival is the client. The audience is whoever stops walking.
